Sydney, Australia – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), the global leader in lighting, is celebrating the southern hemisphere’s largest light, music and art festival, Vivid Sydney 2015, with a visceral new art installation Philips Tree of Light. More than 18,600 individual Philips connected LED lights have been craftily woven into a digital web along the limbs of a tree to create organic, pulsing, interactive light scenes that breathe life and movement into one of Nature’s most still objects.

The Philips Tree of Light was conceived by New Zealand design duo Dean Griffin and Chris Huff to demonstrate how lighting today is not only functional, but also a beautiful, sensory experience that can instantly reconnect us with each other and our natural environment. The Philips Color Kinetics Color Flex LMX strings they used were chosen because they produce high intensity light visible even at long distances and because the products could be so easily adapted to the complex and winding surface of a tree.

As an official technology Collaborator of Vivid Sydney 2015, Philips has sponsored the Philips Tree of Light display and partnered with numerous artists across the festival to support the creation of six other art installations around Sydney including ‘Lucky Country’ by Snell + Llight, ‘Confluence’ by Sheppard Robson Architects, Jason Lu and Joseph Rowe & Simon Palmer and ‘Swing Glow by NBRS + Partners and Fiona Venn.
